Purified albumin egg (ovalbumin) preparation suitable for use as marker in protein electrophoresis and carrier protein for hapten conjugation.
Ovalbumin, a phosphorylated glycoprotein, is only weakly immunogenic. But its structure in particular makes it well suited for a carrier for peptides and other small antigens that by themselves are difficult to manipulate in typical screening assays such as ELISA. Cross-linking reagents such as glutaraldehyde, NHS ester, EDC can be used specifically for conjugation with the numerous primary amines and carboxyl groups of ovalbumin.
